Olive Garden Tortellini al Forno is part of the Olive Garden small plates menu. If you have never tried it, it’s cheese and prosciutto-filled tortellini in a parmesan cream sauce and topped with crumbled bacon.
Olive Garden serves up some lovely small plates which are perfect for an appetizer or you can even order a couple of these small plates and make a meal of them. I recently tried the Olive Garden Tortellini al Forno. It is a delicious dish that you are certain to love.
Stuffed tortellini are served with a creamy Alfredo sauce and topped with crumbled bacon. It is hard to resist this dish and it is so easy to make.

Ingredients
Here’s a list of what you need
- Cheese tortellini
- Butter
- Heavy cream
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Bacon
- Sliced scallions
Ingredient Notes
For this copycat recipe of the Olive Garden Tortellini al Forno, I am using store-bought tortellini. You can find the tortellini in the grocery store in the pre-made pasta section. Select the one that is closest to the and prosciutto-filled tortellini.
This tortellini will only take a couple of moments to prepare. Refrigerated pasta only takes 7 to 9 minutes to cook.
You will also need a couple of slices of crisp cooked bacon. To this, we will add a creamy Parmesan sauce to this pasta.
I like to top Tortellini al Forno with sliced scallions. Freshly sliced scallions are a nice compliment to the dish.
What type of tortellini should you use?
Olive Garden used cheese and prosciutto tortellini for this appetizer. You can use whatever type you like.
I personally prefer the fresh kind you find in the refrigerated section of your grocery store. I think fresh tortellini tastes better and it cooks up very quickly!
How to Make Tortellini Al Forno
- Cook bacon until crisp then crumble the bacon.
- Prepare tortellini according to the package instructions.
- In a small saucepan, combine butter and heavy cream over medium heat.
- When the cream and butter begins to bubble, add Parmesan cheese.
- Whisk until the cheese melts completely.
- Place tortellini in four bowls.
- Pour cheese sauce over tortellini.
- Top with crumbled bacon and sliced scallions.
You may even want to make the Olive Garden Tortellini al Forno as a main dish. This would make a lovely meal with an Olive Garden soup or a DIY Olive Garden salad.

I tripled this. I added fresh spinach to the sauce, and some provolone cheese. We are eating it for dinner. Going to add a salad and some hearty artisan bread. Delicious!Reply

Want to make ahead for an app on a buffet. Do you thing it’ll dry out?Reply
Stephanie
I think it would work fine if you have a chafing dish. If not, it will cool, and it may not be ideal.

I made this today for the first time. It was delicious! Better than Olive garden! I added minced garlic to the butter and cooked for a few minutes then added heavy whipped cream. Left out the scallions. Thanks for the great recipe.

I just made this tonight and it was very good but, depending on which kind of cream you use (I just had table cream here), the cheese sauce can become “dry”.
Next time I’ll try adding some milk to make it creamier or using regular heavy cream
Reply
Stephanie
I am not familiar with the types of cream you mentioned. I used heavy/whipping cream. It sounds like you may have needed a little more liquid when you made the cream.

I am not sure my message was sent so I will repeat. al Forno means baked so why is this not baked?

Stephanie
I don’t know why they named the dish they way they did. I only try to duplicate their recipes. They have a unique idea about scampi too.

Can you tell me who is they? I suspect you cannot so if not I understand.
Stephanie
They = the Olive Garden Restaurant.

I too suspect that they put some toasted breadcrumbs over the tortellini

When I was served this dish, it was not baked. I only try to duplicate what is served. I do not know why they do not bake the dish.

Which tortellini do you buy? Cheese stuffed?
Reply
Stephanie Manley
I bought cheese stuffed for this recipe. This would most closely resemble the Olive Garden’s.
