Can you make kabobs ahead of time?

The most time-consuming part of making chicken kabobs is cutting and marinating the meat and vegetables.

After cutting your meat and vegetables, you can store them in individual airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

You can also skewer your cut meat and vegetables and store in an airtight container or cover a plate tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 3 days before cooking.

Place the chicken kabobs directly on the grill when you are ready to cook them.

Can you freeze kabobs?

If you want to freeze these kabobs, skewer meat and vegetables as directed in the recipe then place on a baking sheet and place in the freezer.

After your chicken kabobs are frozen, you can cover them with foil in a single layer on a baking sheet for long-term storage or move them to a Ziploc freezer bag.

How to cook frozen kabobs

Remove frozen kabobs from the freezer and place directly on a grill heated to medium-high heat. Grill for 15 minutes total, rotating every few minutes.

Use a meat thermometer to make sure that the internal temperature of the chicken is 165 degrees F.

How long do you cook kabobs on the grill?

When you cook kabobs on the grill, you want to be sure that all the sides of each kabob touch the grill.

Most kabobs require about 10-15 minutes to cook.

You can rotate your kabobs 4 times and let them cook for 3 minutes on each side to ensure doneness and a nice crispy exterior.

How do you store leftover kabobs?

Leftover kabobs can be stored off or on skewers, in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

I find that it’s easier to store the leftover kabobs off of their skewers, just in a reusable air-tight container (like these ones). It makes for a really easy grab-and-go meal the next day!

While my chicken kabobs were grilling, I mixed together my two Private Selection sauces and brushed it on my kabobs the last few minutes of grilling.

After the meat and vegetables were cooked, I removed them from the grill, placed the on a baking sheet and then brushed on some more sauce while they were still hot.

You could also serve these kabobs with rice and a side of the prepared sauce.

Tips for how to make these Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Kabobs:

We do not have a Kroger here. What can I use in place of the Pinapple Wing sauce?

  3. Cyd says:

Any type of a sweet marinade or sauce will work. Lawry's makes a pineapple marinade and so does Soy Vay. Hope this helps.

  4. Ashley says:

Could these be made ahead and put in freezer until ready to grill?? Looking for freezer meals for when our second baby arrives amd these sound really yummy!!!

  5. Cyd says:

It should freeze well. Put in the fridge the night before you grill so they thaw completely. Best of luck on your 2nd baby!!

We love this recipe! Thank you for sharing it! Is this a recipe that can be prepped and stored in the freezer?

  13. Cyd says:

These can be prepped and frozen ahead of time. Then just pull from the freezer and go straight to the grill.

  14. Haley says:

How much does the chicken weigh

  15. Kim G says:

I would love to make this recipe, BUT... Just to save anyone else the frustration, neither of those sauces are available anymore. At the top of the page, it says the recipe was published 9-1-21 and updated 10-4-21. Boy, do I wish I’d read the comments before getting my taste buds revved up. My BIL scoured several Kroger’s from Sherman to Houston looking for the two signature sauces mentioned ( just this weekend during a road trip from OK to Houston) on my behalf, and couldn’t find either of them. I came back to ask which Kroger’s does have them, and see the original comments are from 2017... IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO SEE THAT INFORMATION AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE. I’m so disappointed now.

  16. Momma Cyd says:

Any BBQ sauce and Pineapple wing sauce will work great with these kabobs. It doesn't have to be Private Selection brand. We added that to the post. Thank you.

Use Less Cooking Wood or Charcoal

The more cooking wood or charcoal you use in your grill, the greater the risk that your skewers will burn. Cooking wood and charcoal burn to produce heat. While heat is essential for cooking food at a safe temperature, too much heat may ignite your skewers, causing them to burn to ash.

Do you have to marinate veggies for kabobs? ›

Marinating kabobs once they're assembled infuses them with flavor and keeps the ingredients moist and tender. Marinating time can be anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours. If you're short on time, you can brush marinades over kabobs just before cooking, the way we've done with our Veggie Fajita Kabobs.

Grill kabobs over direct heat of approximately 400°F. Kabobs with 3/4-inch cubes require approximately 8 to 10 minutes of total time on the grill, flipping halfway through. Bigger chunks will take a few more minutes.

What veggies go good on kabobs? ›

Some of my favorites for kabobs are: bell peppers (any color), zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, onions (I like red onions, but yellow onions or shallots are great too), and tomatoes (smaller cherry or grape tomatoes). I've also tried grilled brussels sprouts on skewers and loved them!

How do you grill kabobs without burning vegetables? ›

Putting meat and veggies on the same skewer is an amateur move. Since they cook dissimilarly, the veggies will burn before the meat is cooked, especially if you're cooking chicken. So, skewer them separately, veggies on one skewer, meat on another.

Why is my kebab not sticking to the skewer? ›

Chances are there's too much fat in the meat and that's why they are not sticking together. It could also be that it is too fine of a grind, a coarser grind for the meat usually results in it sticking a bit better. You could try adding breadcrumbs or flour along with some egg or egg white and see if that works.

Why is my kebab meat not sticking to the skewer? ›

Mix your meat real well either by hand (I prefer hand) or mixer until is tacky. Wet your hands when skewering them up. If you're unsure, put the meat mix in the freezer 20 mins till you're ready to skewer so it's really cold.

What happens if you don't soak skewers before grilling? ›

The dry and brittle wood easily burns on a hot grill, unless you take preventative action. The best way to keep wooden skewers from burning is to soak them in water before firing up the grill.

Should I wrap my kebabs in foil? ›

My top tip for making these kabobs is to use Reynolds Wrap® Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil. It makes prepping, grilling, and clean-up so much easier, while keeping the kabobs flavorful and juicy. There's no need to have to stand by the grill to watch them which means I can spend more time with my family.
