Crock Pot Cube Steak Recipe (with cream of Celery) (2024)

I know cube steak reminds us of the tough cardboard steaks grandma used to make for us. She always overcooked it and it was as tough as leather (at least my grandma did!).

Crock Pot Cube Steak Recipe (with cream of Celery) (1)

Not the prettiest piece of meat either! Great for cooking on a budget and if you know how to make it, it can be very delicious and tender. In comes the crockpot to the rescue.

If you are a crockpot fanatic like I am, you know everything comes out tender and juicy.

This crockpot cube steak recipe uses cream of chicken soup, cream of celery soup (or cream of mushroom soup), Lipton onion mix as well as big onion rings, which give it such a rich and creamy texture and flavor.

So come on, give the old cube steak another chance and try this recipe. You’ll want to slather the rich sauce all over your side of rice!

HOW LONG TO COOK CUBE STEAK IN CROCKPOT ON HIGH?

The rule of thumb is generally if you cook on high, make it half the time than you would on low, so for this recipe you would need to cook your cube steaks on high for 3 hours.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH CROCKPOT CUBE STEAK?

Believe me when I tell you that you need to serve this with rice or mashed potatoes.

You will want to pour that delicious sauce all over them. A side of steamed veggies would be great too, or a Waldorf salad.

CAN YOU PUT FROZEN CUBE STEAK IN THE CROCKPOT?

I wouldn’t recommend it. Remember this is a slow cooking method, so the steaks would remain frozen for a long time inside your crockpot and your cooking time would be too long.

It is not sanitary also to defrost meat in a warm environment for too long, so please don’t use frozen steaks.

RECIPE TIPS;

  • If you don’t like cream of celery soup, you can substitute it for the cream of mushroom soup, cream of asparagus soup, cream of bacon, or your favorite creamed soup
  • Don’t make your onion rings too thin. The idea of using them is for flavor, and like a barrier between the steaks so they don’t stick together.
  • If you notice your steaks cook before the time is up, check for tenderness. They might be cooked, but still need the extra time to become tender.

I love the look of this recipe because most ask for cream of mushroom and I’m not a big fan of mushrooms and I’m going to make it today, I just have 1 question:
    Can I brown them first?

You can! Definitely browning the meat first gives them a great flavor. Just remember they are very thin, so do it quickly on a hot skillet

This was indeed excellent! When I first try a new recipe, I follow the instructions fairly closely to properly evaluate before I start making changes. Now that I have made it I would shorten the cook time otherwise it was perfect!
