How many under cabinet LED lights do I need? ›

And if you have display shelves or glass cabinet fronts, puck lights are easy to install under shelving for accent lighting. Spacing is important when installing puck lights. Buy enough pucks to allow for one light for every 8 to 12 inches of cabinet space.

When installing low voltage under cabinet lights, you will have to take some special measures. You'll need a transformer to convert your home's voltage supply to a much Page 11 11 lower number, and if you plan to use any accessories, like dimmers, they'll need to be compatible with your lighting system.

If your countertop is reflective, install the LED tape lighting on the inside back of the cabinet lip frame with the LEDs facing towards your backsplash. This method helps eliminate unwanted light reflections and bright spots reflecting off your countertop.

For the average space of 250 square feet, you'll need roughly 5,000 lumens as your primary light source (20 lumens x 250 square feet). In your dining room, you'll want about 30 lumens per square foot on your dining table (you want to see your food, but not examine it), so if your table is 6' x 3', that's 540 lumens.

If you're installing your LED under cabinet lights in the kitchen, you need a colour that's between 3000K & 6000K, meaning a warm white light, a natural white light or a cool white light. That's because anything below 3000K will cast a yellowish-orange hue, which makes it hard to perceive the colours correctly.

Work spaces of any type, especially those under storage cabinets, need lighting. Permanent fixtures such as light bars or puck lights tend to be best, with bars providing more consistent lighting across the surface.

For kitchen applications, we strongly recommend a color temperature between 3000K and 4000K. Why? Well, lights below 3000K will cast a very yellowish-orange hue, which can make color perception a bit difficult if you are using the area for food prep, so we don't recommend any lighting below 3000K.

You can buy lights with a power cord to plug in, which is probably the easiest type to manage, as the plug comes into a standard power socket and you only turn it on and off whenever you need it, just like regular lights. There is also a possibility to have under-cabinet lights controlled by a switch.

LED lights are designed to last 50,000 hours. Unlike other lights, LED bulbs don't simply burn out or stop working. LED voltage drop could contribute to dimness. Keeping your lights cool can help preserve their life.

While other light bulbs can get extremely hot when you turn them on, LED lights usually only get slightly warm, if at all (they may even feel cold to the touch). It is because LEDs use less energy than other bulbs, which means they don't waste as much energy producing unnecessary heat.

They illuminate dark surfaces so you can cook meals and navigate the kitchen safely and easily. While they may not be spectacular, they provide the light when you need it the most and when your overhead lights simply do not provide the lighting angles you need.

Every 450 lumens gives you approximately the same amount of light as a 40W incandescent bulb. If, for example, you're trying to reproduce the brightness of 4x 40 watt incandescent bulbs, make sure you have approximately 4 ft of LED strip lighting.

Follow the ceiling height rule of thumb.

To determine how far apart recessed lighting should be in bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms, divide the height of the ceiling by 2 and use that as your light spacing. For example, if a room has 8-foot high ceilings, recessed lighting should be spaced roughly 4 feet apart.

In smaller kitchens, install recessed lights two to three feet apart to keep lighting uniform. Have a larger kitchen? Install one recessed light for every four to six square feet of ceiling space. Though recessed lights may look small, together they provide strong, consistent light coverage across a whole room.

Good spacing for puck lights is 8 to 12 inches apart. Twist the mounting cap off the light and hold it in place on the underside of the cabinet.

This number, which is usually between 0.5 and 1.5, is multiplied by the ceiling height in order to determine the maximum distance allowed for each light. If a 6-inch light has a spacing criteria of 1.5 and the ceiling height is 8 feet, the maximum space between each light should be 12 feet.
